Meet the Principal Investigators

Principal Investigator

Dr. Ernest Turro
Principal Investigator

Dr. Ernest Turro, PhD is an Associate Professor and the Arthur J and Nellie Z Cohen Professor of Pediatrics (Genetics) at Mount Sinai. He has extensive research experience in genetics, genomics, and molecular diagnostics. He has made many contributions towards understanding the genetic causes of rare hereditary disorders, particularly neurodevelopmental, hematological and immune disorders. He has also developed a number of influential statistical methods, including methods for inferring genetic associations with rare diseases and for modeling the expression and splicing of genes.

Co-Principal Investigator

Dr. Mafalda Barbosa
Co-Principal Investigator

Dr. Mafalda Barbosa, MD, PhD is a Clinical Geneticist and Assistant Professor of Genetics and Genomic Sciences and Pediatrics at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She is board-certified in clinical genetics and provides care for both children and adults with rare genetic and inherited conditions.

Our Collaborators

Co-Investigator

Dr. Cheen Euong Ang
Co-Investigator

Dr. Cheen Euong Ang, PhD is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Neuroscience at Mount Sinai. His lab is interested in developing optical imaging, spatial omics and stem cell tools to understanding cellular plasticity in the context of neurodevelopment and neurological diseases.

Collaborator

Dr. Kathleen Freson
Collaborator

Dr. Kathleen Freson, PhD is a Professor and Head of the Centre for Molecular and Vascular Biology at KU Leuven. She is also the Director of KU Leuven's Biomedical Sciences Doctoral School. Her research interests include the study of genetic platelet disorders and neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism spectrum disorder at the clinical, biochemical and molecular level.
